Lucy Gomez of Get Camping Wild shares eco-conscious products that you can use in your daily living, some of which you can use while traveling. Find out more below.
We have seen rising temperatures and extreme weather events wreak havoc across the globe over the past decade. This has been a major concern for all governments and has caused major discussion from people of all walks of life about the kinds of products that we use to reduce our impact on the environment.
That’s why I have found seven fun and useful eco-conscious products that will help those who love planet earth.
1. Rechargeable Batteries
When you think about batteries these days, you think about the chemicals that can damage the environment, such as lead. This can pollute our land and waterways, harm humans and wildlife.
That is why having rechargeable batteries will allow you to reduce the number of batteries you use. You protect the environment and save money at the same time.
You can use rechargeable batteries just in the same way as you use your normal batteries. Useful when you have to replace batteries in radios or your medical devices on a regular basis.
2. Insulated pads
The best way of making yourself warm in the winter without having to use gas heaters or any stoves that generate carbon dioxide emissions into the air is to use insulated pads. All you have to do is put the pads underneath you and then put your blanket or something else on top. This allows you to keep warm without emitting bad carbon emissions into the environment. It’s one of the best ways of warming your room or heat a tent without electricity.
Why, you might ask? It’s because when you are using the pads, they trap heat from your body. That means no need for external sources to keep you warm and you save money.
3. Cotton Shopping Bags
Ever seen those pictures of birds getting stuck in plastic bags? Have you seen the pictures of the Pacific Ocean with the body of plastic bags? Those plastic bags do not break down and as a result, we are not able to protect the sea creatures and the birds that depend on the sea for their food and habitat.
Having cotton shopping bags works well. You can use them as many times as you want and if used properly, they will last for a very long time. Do your shopping or carry heavy items using these cotton shopping bags and you will have fun using them, while reducing the garbage problem.
4. Biodegradable Pots
For those who do not understand why we need to use biodegradable products, biodegradable products can be broken down by microorganisms over time, unlike traditional plastics which end up in landfills when disposed and not recycled. Likewise, biodegradable materials are made from renewable materials unlike plastics which are made from petroleum bases.
Biodegradable pots are one example of biodegradable products. Not only can you use them for growing your favorite strawberries or even your green leafy vegetables, they are easy to dispose of.
Once these pots are disposed, they will break down without releasing any harmful substances to the environment. This makes this product one of the most fun and eco-conscious products on this list.
If you want to save a bit of money when you are growing your vegetables in your biodegradable pots, then you can invest in a composter.
What is great about a composter is that you can dispose any organic waste such as dead wood, leaves, food peelings or rotten food, and use them to create your very own compost. It is cheap and is guaranteed to make your home grown plants and vegetables grow larger and stronger.
The other great thing about composters is that your food waste or any organic waste lying around can be reused, ensuring that you reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
6. Energy-Efficient Light-Bulbs
If you are looking to save on power and would like to use an eco-friendly product that does not destroy the environment just by being turned on, then you should definitely consider energy-efficient light bulbs.
When you are looking at eco-friendly light bulbs, such as Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Halogen Incandescent light bulbs, they use 25 to 80% less energy. Plus, they tend to last between three to twenty-five years longer than normal light bulbs.
That means that you are saving money on power bills and you are not sending light bulbs as frequently to the land fill.

7. Reusable water bottles
When you travel, you can bring your own reusable water bottles. It can save you money by refilling your water bottles from clean and safe drinking water sources from your camping trips or from your hotels. This will prevent generation of empty plastic water bottles that eventually end up in the landfills if not recycled.
